About Canadian Jewellery Brand Lunar Rain

Throughout her childhood, Melissa has spent many summers camping, canoeing and fishing throughout the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, Canada. Her time spent on and by the sea has had a deep impact on her imagination and on her artistic creations. She has turned a little baby octopus that she found on a sandstone beach into a lively golden necklace. The harbour seals that would pop up and stare at her while she fished for flounder have now made their way into our Full Fathom Five Collection. As have the long, elegant strands of kelp that she paddled through in her canoe on long summer days on Galiano Island.

Canadian jewellery designer, Melissa Chen has thoroughly woven her fondest memories into our jewellery collections to become beautiful works of art. This has imbued a sense of wonder into her work and is what gives her jewellery designs an ethereal and other worldly quality that is inimitable.

Melissa Chen’s one of a kind designs are a reminder that true beauty is a fleeting fish under a canoe paddle and the curves on a blade of sea kelp moving with the ocean currents. Artist Melissa Chen was born in China and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada when she was two years old. She has lived in Vancouver for the majority of her life. She has also spent four years living in Chicago studying for her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and two years living in London, England studying for her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art.
