Lunar Rain: Designing the Strawberry Mouse Necklace
Lunar Rain: Designing the Strawberry Mouse Necklace by Melissa Chen
Here is a video of my design painting process for my Strawberry Mouse Perfume Bottle Necklace design for Lunar Rain. When I think of a new design idea, I first paint the idea in watercolour on paper. This painting is then used as reference to create the final piece of jewellery.
When designing the Strawberry Mouse Perfume Bottle Necklace, I wanted to create something that was cute, beautiful, wearable and usable. As an expansion on the previous mouse idea I created, The Mouse Who Ate Too Much Cheese Pill Box Pendant, I decided to design a strawberry mouse. And since strawberries can be deliciously fragrant, I thought that it would be ideal for a perfume bottle design. When designing this idea, I again played with polished and matte gold surfaces, using the shiny surfaces to highlight certain areas of the piece. Looking at the final piece, the shiny curves of the tail stem and the little round ears look super cute to me. The choice of rose gold instead of our usual yellow gold also makes it look very strawberry like.
