A porcelain dish depicting the two faced Roman god Janus. Janus is the spirit of doorways and archways which decorate the edge of the dish. This dish required four kiln firings and multiple layers of underglaze to achieve the desired result. Our porcelain dishes are hand-painted by jewellery designer and artist Melissa Chen and are signed with her initials and year of creation. Because they are hand-painted, each dish is a unique work of art. Perfect for jewellery and small objects.

This depiction of Janus is based on the Bust of the Roman god Janus, an engraving from 1569 from The New York Public Library. More info on the engraving can be found here.
