SHEIN has stolen our Angel Fish design from us and is now selling a cheap copper and CZ version of our design. Our Angel Fish was designed in March 2021 by artist and jewellery designer Melissa Chen for our fine jewellery and art brand, LUNAR RAIN. LUNAR RAIN is based in Vancouver, Canada and ships worldwide.

We have evidence to prove that our Angel Fish design originates from us. Our Angel Fish design holds a prior US copyright registration that dates to 2021-09-19 under registration number VAu001447122. A copy of this registration can be found at the US Copyright Office in Washington, DC. This copyright registration pre-dates SHEIN’s blatant theft of our design by many years. Based on our research, SHEIN appears to have started selling copies of our design sometime in 2024. In addition to our copyright registration, we also have social media posts of our design that pre-date SHEIN’s copy.
SHEIN’s cheap copy of our Angel Fish design is made of copper and cubic zirconia. Copper jewellery turns green very quickly and is destined to end up in landfills sooner rather than later. Copper jewellery also turns skin green due to oxidation with the formation of copper carbonate (Cu2(OH)2CO3) and copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2). This reaction occurs when copper is exposed to air, moisture, and carbon dioxide, leading to the formation of a green coating.
When throwing away cheap oxidized copper jewellery, we recommend hammering out the “stones” and taking it to a recycling facility where they accept scrap metals.
In comparison, our Angel Fish jewellery is always made with 18k solid gold with diamond and gemstones. We often use one-of-a-kind dendritic agate gemstones to create our unique Angel Fish Pendants. The natural inclusions in dendritic agate resemble coral and seaweed which imbues our Angel Fish with a beautiful organic feel. We also use other gemstones for custom requests.
When comparing SHEIN’s copy with the LUNAR RAIN original, SHEIN’s version looks devoid of life.

Our Angel Fish design is a part of our oceanic Full Fathom Five Collection. We invested a lot of time and funds into creating this design. Prior to releasing this design, our designer, Melissa Chen, performed thorough research to make sure that this design was an original creation that didn’t exist yet. Our brand strives to only release new original creations.

As a Vancouver based fashion brand we would also like to voice our disappointment in Vancouver Fashion Week for attempting to show SHEIN in its 2025 line-up. The subsequent backlash and cancellation of Shein’s planned show was deserved.
